Measuring a Physiological Response Does Not Directly Measure Truth
Polygraph signals and uncertainty need to be considered together. The archive introduces a so-called lie detector, while recognising disagreement about its accuracy.

Polygraph signals and uncertainty: what is recorded?
The source links emotion with changes in the body. A polygraph can record physiological measures such as breathing, cardiovascular activity and skin conductance while questions are asked.
Those signals are not a direct reading of thoughts or truth. An anxious or stressed person can show a response for reasons other than deception. A device does not sound an infallible alarm whenever a person lies.
A response is not proof of a lie
The National Academies’ review explains that the measured responses are not uniquely related to deception and that scientific and methodological limitations matter.
The archive describes using a response to select further questions. This edition does not promise a confession or a solved case, and does not present a result as sufficient proof of guilt. Real investigative decisions require appropriate evidence and procedures.
Old staffing and career claims are not current guidance
The article reports one instrument, one specialist and recruitment requirements in Thailand at the time. Those details are not verified as current staffing, vacancies, qualifications or legal practice.
Polygraph signals and uncertainty can introduce the distinction between observation and inference. The article is not a guide to interrogating children, testing a family member or making a judgement about someone’s honesty from a body signal.

These images are retained from the original page as examples of published learning activities and programme information. Some contain Thai text or historical dates. They do not guarantee the same result for a new learner. Confirm current programmes with the team.
Frequently asked questions
Does a polygraph directly measure truth?
No. It records physiological signals that are not specific to lying.
Is a response proof of guilt?
No. Interpretation and independent evidence matter.
Are the Thai staffing and recruitment details current?
They are historical claims and need fresh verification.
