Instructions, Shared Services and Familiar Devices
Robot programs and operating systems are linked by an analogy in this archive. They both involve software, but an ordinary robot programme is not itself a phone operating system.

Robot programs and operating systems have different roles
The source begins with an EV3 programme interpreting an instruction or button action and producing a movement. This can introduce the idea that a physical device follows a designed control process.
An operating system has a broader role managing resources and providing services used by applications. A small task programme and an operating system are related software concepts, not interchangeable names for the same thing.
Phones: iOS and Android
The archive contrasts Apple’s iOS with Android and the possibility of adapting open-source software. The Android ecosystem includes an open-source project, while a complete phone may also contain proprietary components and services.
The amount a user can change depends on the device, permissions and supported features. The original’s broad statements about total control or freedom should not be treated as a specification for every phone.
Computers: Windows and macOS
The source names Windows and OS X, the older name used for Apple’s Mac operating system. It also confuses iOS with the Mac platform in part of the comparison; this edition separates them.
Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint are available for Mac as well as Windows. A blanket claim that one system is always more stable or uniquely suited to documents is not established by the archive.
Use the analogy to ask a better question
Which component reads an input? Which part decides what happens? What hardware performs the action? Those questions connect the examples without claiming every moving mechanism needs an operating system.
Robot programs and operating systems can open a conversation about software design. The archive’s hope that a learner might create a new system is encouragement rather than a guaranteed course outcome.

Frequently asked questions
Is every EV3 task programme an operating system?
No. The roles differ even though both involve software.
Is iOS the same as the Mac operating system?
No. The archive’s platform names need to be distinguished.
Does Microsoft Office exist only on Windows?
No. Word, Excel and PowerPoint are also available for Mac.
